Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing, the BIM Developer will collaborate with both customers and internal stakeholders to produce innovative software solutions and applications to support the specification and design of fire sprinkler systems, with a focus on Building Information Modeling (BIM).  This includes directly performing programming activities as well as coordinating application development using external resources.  In addition to creating innovative applications to support the BIM design process, the BIM Developer will also assist with programming requests in other functional areas including, ecommerce, mobile apps, and digital asset management.  The company will accept candidates with the required qualifications to work remotely from a home office.  Although the preferred location is Viking's Grand Rapids, Michigan area headquarters, relocation is not required.


  • Assist in identifying unique and innovative software opportunities to serve fire sprinkler contractors, and the fire protection industry overall.
  • Continuously analyze customers' BIM design process and develop recommendations for innovative applications and software solutions that can make the process more efficient, improve accuracy, and expand the benefits of BIM overall.
  • Create detailed project plans including anticipated budget (time) and detailed execution timeline.  Manage development projects according to budget and agreed time frames.


  • Minimum of three years programming experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, programming, or closely related field is preferred. 
  • The ideal candidate will have experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM), including Revit software by Autodesk.
  • A background in fire protection desired, but not required for this position.
  • Experience with mobile app development is also preferred.
  • Highly organized with a focus/attention to detail.
  • Deadline driven with a proven track record of completing projects on time and on budget.
  • Most important, the BIM Developer must be flexible, open to new ideas, and have a desire to explore innovative applications that enhance customer value.
